Who is Iron Pussy? “The Adventure
of Iron Pussy” series are underground video
projects portraying a crime-busting heroine who
was once a-go-go boy. He has seen the unfair treatments
of the sex workers during his years in the business.
Gradually, (S)he has become the most wanted heroin
who most likely to save the day and make Bangkok
safe for the tourists who come to support the sex
industry. Iron Pussy is one of the personas of a
Thai performance artist Michael Shaowanasai, whose
works directly criticize; satirize the Thai gender
politics and the art industry at the same time.
The
previous Iron Pussy videos, which contain many direct
sexual expressions, are mainly screened at art exhibitions.
Synopsis
Iron Pussy decides to take a commission from a Thai
government, who usually deems her indecent for her
publicly supporting the sex industry. But they cannot
deny her ability to scrap the crimes with beauty.
An undercover operation takes her to a remote mansion
where she not only discovered illegal activities,
but also her past, and her first love.
Filmmaker’s Statement
Michael Shaowanasai: It is an open invitation for
a limited time only! Iron Pussy bares herself for
the first time for any artists to embrace her persona
in any way according to their wishes. She has no
prejudice on color, form, and style. She can appear
in a comic book, a novel, a photograph, or in this
case, a movie – a melodramatic one. Available
only when this supply lasts.
Apichatpong Weerasethakul: It was an honor to be
invited! I usually see her in seedy bars around
Patpong, fighting sex crimes. So I pampered her
with a nice trip back to the past. But our Time
Machine was a cheap model, so at times the trip
was quite spotty, like scattered memories. I equipped
her with the junk left in the trash bins of the
abandoned old Thai film
studios. Among the artifacts were the lost sounds,
the dubbed voices that were so distant but cherished
in my memory. It was the life Iron Pussy could not
possess in contemporary landscape. It was also the
life that we could not have because we thought our
trash was so filthy.
