Simon Field joined Illuminations Films in 2004 after eight years as director of the Rotterdam Film Festival. Together with Keith Griffiths, in 2006, he co-produced the New Crowned Hope festival series of films including features by Bahman Ghobadi, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Garin Nugroho and Tsai Ming-Liang and including Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Syndromes and a Century. With Apichatpong, they went on to produce his major installation Primitive (2009) and the related feature Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010).
Over the last 35 years Keith Griffiths has been bringing to the screen work by some of the most innovative directors including original British film-makers like the Brothers Quay, Patrick Keiller, Chris Petit and Simon Pummell in the UK and the Czech animator Jan Svankmajer. In 1986 he founded Illuminations Films and recently produced one of 2012’s most critically acclaimed British features, Peter Strickland’s prize-winning Berberian Sound Studio.
